5 Steps of the Re-new Approach

STEP 1:

Initial Assessment

  • It’s not about asking yes or no questions.

Together, we’re going to discuss all of your symptoms, when they began, how they’ve progressed and uncover anything that may be contributing to your condition.

  • A thorough neurological exam where we take a closer look at cognitive, motor, and sensory function, cranial nerves, reflexes and more to determine if our treatments are going to be right for you.

  • Pending the results of the physical exam, we may ask that you begin home exercises to begin the process of stabilizing your nervous system prior to moving you forward to the next step.

STEP 2:

Evaluation & Review

  • Computerized Assessment of Postural Systems (CAPS) uses a force plate to measure how well your body maintains balance by analyzing the way you shift your weight while standing. The test involves standing on a special platform under a variety of conditions while sensors record your body's slightest movements and changes in position. It helps identify issues with balance and coordination that may be caused by inner ear problems, neurological conditions, or muscle weakness. If you're experiencing unsteadiness on hard or uneven surfaces this test can help determine the cause and guide treatment for improving your balance.

  • Video-oculography (VOG) is a test that records and analyzes eye movements to assess how well your eyes are tracking. Using specialized goggles with built-in cameras, VOG tracks your eye motions as you follow various types of targets. This test helps identify issues with the vestibular system, central nervous system, or eye muscles, which can cause sensitivity to movement, dizziness, disorientation, blurry vision, or difficulty focusing and reading. If you're experiencing problems with eye coordination or balance, VOG can provide valuable information for diagnosing and treating these symptoms.

  • NeckCare technology is a system designed to evaluate the control and position sense of the neck, which plays a key role in posture and movement. The lightweight technology uses sensors to assess how well the neck muscles and joints can sense and respond to changes in head and neck position. Dysfunction in this area can contribute to symptoms like neck pain, dizziness, headaches, or difficulty with balance and coordination. If you're experiencing these issues, NeckCare technology can help identify problems with neck control and joint position sense, guiding targeted treatments to improve your symptoms and overall neck function.

  • Video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT) is a diagnostic procedure used to assess the function of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), which helps control eye movements and maintain stable vision during head motion. The test involves wearing goggles that track eye movements while your head is quickly moved in specific directions oriented with your vestibular system. It helps identify problems with the vestibular system, which can cause dizziness, balance issues, neck pain or vision disturbances. If you're experiencing chronic neck pain, unexplained dizziness or trouble with balance, vHIT can help pinpoint whether your VOR is functioning properly and guide treatment.

  • Tilt Table Testing is a procedure used to evaluate how your autonomic nervous system responds to changes in position, specifically when moving from lying down to an upright position. During the test, you'll be lying on a table that tilts you to different angles while your heart rate, blood pressure and eye sight are monitored. This test helps diagnose conditions like fainting, dizziness, or unexplained lightheadedness, which may be related to issues with the autonomic nervous system. If you're experiencing frequent dizziness or fainting, Tilt Table Testing can provide valuable insights into what's causing these symptoms and help guide treatment.

Tilt table testing is not part of our standard testing protocol. It can be performed on request or one of our providers may recommend it based on your symptoms.

REVIEW

We believe patients should understand what is driving their symptoms.

We sit down with you and carefully review all the data from the testing. By analyzing the results, we will gain a clear understanding of what’s contributing to your issues and provide a detailed explanation of the underlying causes. This comprehensive approach ensures that we can develop an effective treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

STEP 3:

Treatment

  • Under this option, patients will reserve 1 week for treatment. They will come to the clinic daily and undergo multiple treatments per day in order to progress them quickly and effectively. They will be re-evaluated twice during the week. At the end of the week, a home exercise program will be provided to continue their improvement outside of the clinic.

OR

  • Under this option, patients will attend one appointment per day twice per week for 4-5 weeks. Home exercises will be provided to patients to do outside of the clinic on a daily basis. Re-evaluations will be run at the end of this time to observe changes made and alterations to the treatment plan, such as frequency of care in the clinic and exercises to be done at home.

STEP 4:

Home Program

Each patient will receive a home exercise program containing detailed instructions on how to perform their individualized exercises along with any necessary videos required to aid in the completion of the exercises. They will receive instructions on the order to complete exercises, how often to complete them, and additional information about care and lifestyle modifications to support their recovery. Other options that may be provided are the use of certain apps to improve cognitive function.

STEP 5:

Follow-Up

We want to ensure you are continuing to progress.

After a week with us, we will schedule a follow up appointment, virtually or in-person, to ensure that all exercises are being performed properly. They are advised to continue them for a period of time that is determined by their provider. This can be expected to be 4-6 weeks. Upon completion of the home exercises for the determined period of time, patients are then provided the opportunity to schedule an additional re-evaluation in-person to ensure the home exercise program is making improvements and make any modifications to the program to ensure continued success.
